Growth
This piece is based off an underwater garden, something I personally really enjoy planting and tending to. I’ve realised that, like a garden, a child has to be nurtured for them to grow. In my piece, plants grow atop a small, fresh brain resembling that of a child’s. The vibrant colours illustrate youth—an expression of a child’s development when they are nurtured with an education. Plants of different types and colours, fish of different species, represent the multitude of benefits an education can give, from more practical benefits like an understanding of what is safe and what is not, to more abstract benefits like how they can become more curious, imaginative individuals. I believe that children in South Sudan should have access to education, and should have the opportunity to support the growth of their minds.
