Intertwined

The children of South Sudan live in terror due to the constant military conflicts the country has. In fear, they walk to school on ruptured, rocky grounds. While working on this piece, I reflected on how privileged I am, and all of us SJII students are, to live and study in a peaceful country where our first priority is to study, while their main pursuit is to survive.

The curves and swirls, painted in the colours of the South Sudan flag, resemble smooth roads. It is a visual representation of my wish for the peace and stability of South Sudan, and a reminder of how fortunate we are to walk on the streets with peace of mind, which we often take for granted. The colors envelope each other as a symbol of protection. The strings that are pasted over these swirls represent the lifelines that your help can give to these children, bettering their lives, allowing them to walk on “smooth roads” with peace.
